Weight of Evidence—Creating Transparency in Evaluating Unreasonable Adverse Impact
November 15, 2018
In his feature in POWER Environmental’s Currents newsletter, Gino Giumarro asks whether it’s time to apply an objective and transparent methodology for evaluating unreasonable adverse impacts to energy projects. He suggests applying the weight-of-evidence (WoE) approach, which has been used successfully to clean up some of the most polluted sites in the U.S. by following the EPA’s framework for conducting an ecological risk assessment.
This reference guide provides more information on WoE. It shows how the framework would be applied to energy projects, shares more about the history of using WoE in environmental assessment, and discusses the benefits of this methodology to the public and project proponents.
